While every day of the spring season is beautiful to witness at Keukenhof, the flowers bloom in three different flowering periods, each offering something special.
During the initial opening days, the garden will have lots of blooming flowers. You can also witness some great indoor flower shows with blooming tulips on display. In the gardens outside, you will find daffodils and crocuses in bloom during this period.
After the flowering period of the crocuses and daffodils passes, the hyacinths and the early tulips take center stage and are ready to bloom in the outdoor gardens. The indoor flower shows still take place during this period.
In the third and final flowering period, the eponymous tulips of the Tulip Festival will bloom in their entire glory in the outdoor gardens. The trees will be greener, the sun will be brighter, and the indoor flower shows will still showcase beautiful flowers.
The best time to visit Keukenhof is before 10:30am and after 4:00pm, when you can experience the gardens in a relatively quieter and less crowded atmosphere. Keukenhof is only open for eight weeks from 21 March to 12 May, 2024.
Arrive at the time slot assigned to tickets purchased. Keukenhof works with 30 minute time slots as arrival time. The last time slot is 6pm–6:30pm. However, this only gives you 1.5 hours to explore the gardens. However, if you arrive early or late, you may still be allowed to enter provided the park is not full. If not, you may have to wait a while to enter.
You can find blooming tulips from early March to mid-April. If you want to see the larger tulips blooming in their full glory, you should visit between mid-April and mid-May.
The Amsterdam tulips are planted in layers to ensure the flowers bloom early and last longer. As the flowers are planted in layers, you can visit Keukenhof any day during the season. Do note that the blooming of the flowers is heavily dependent on the weather. Update yourself with the relevant weather information before you plan your visit.
The Flower Parade will take place on Saturday, April 20. This parade sees colourful floats and luxury vehicles decorated in masses of flowers travelling a 42 km route from Noordwijk to Haarlem, accompanied by cheerful music from marching bands. The Bulb Region and Keukenhof will be especially busy on this day. Make sure you are in the gardens before 12am as a number of roads in the Bollenstreek will be closed till 5pm for the Flower Parade.
Keukenhof covers an impressive 32 hectares and is home to around 7 million flower bulbs planted each year. Various flower shows, parades, and events take place in Keukenhof during spring. You can enjoy your time in the gardens for as long as you want, but on average, take 2-4 hours for a leisurely visit.
The best way to have a fulfilling trip to Keukenhof is by booking a guided tour. On a guided tour, you learn all about the painstaking efforts that go into creating the beauty of the gardens. With most of your guided tours and tickets, you can enjoy the park at your own pace.
